Abstract

The South side of the sundial is decorated with the prow and rostrum of a ship. On the head of the prora, a small hole is visible, which was probably used as a mounting hole for a decorative figure or ornament of a ship's prow, the acrostolium. Gibbs: A probable gnomon hole can be seen in the top surface of the dial. It is cylindrical, 22 mm in diameter, and 44 mm deep.
