Abstract

The present gnomon is not original, and museum restoration has destroyed any trace of the original gnomon hole. [...] The dial is dedicated to the Emperor Caracalla (Marcus Aurelius Severus Antonius) and his mother Julia Domna. Gatty says the dial was found at Aphrodisias before 1877.
