Abstract

A gnomon hole with lead is preserved in top surface of the dial above the meridian. This miniature dial is part of a funeral stele of the philosopher Theodotos, son of Menephron, dating from the second century B.C. [...] A tiny sphinx supports the shadow-receiving surface. A similar sphinx in the upper right corner probably also supported a sundial.
