"df_descr": "A Hellenistic sundial not contained in the standard catalogue by Gibbs. This example is unique in being made of plaster, in its small size, and in having a shadow-receiving surface of negative, roughly hyperboloidal curvature. As is shown by the location of the eleven hour lines, the lost gnomon was undoubtedly placed as usual within the horizontal upper plane, and the twelve hour segments show equal breadth with an accuracy netter than average. The maximum indivation of season possible with this design would have been achieved with a gnomon tip adjusted to the centre of the circular edge line, so as to have its shadow on the face during the winter half of the year and off the face in summer. Although these features are satisfactorily represented, the sundial has a minor defect in that the horizontal top surface as described above is clearly not parallel to the plane at the bottom of the base, a fact that can be explained only as a mistake or as a subsequent adaption to an oblique support.",
