"obj_descr": "Kroeper: Two faces of the stone are worked, one has a plane angled surface, the opposite side a conoidal face. Both sides have 12 radial lightly engraved lines on their respective surfaces emanating from the top edge of the stone downward. At the top of the stone is a hole in which originally the shadow throwing, probably, metal rod was placed. Of particular interest in this example are the two faces (PI. "df_descr": "The hour marks are set on two opposing sides of this sandstone block. The top side has a cavity for the gnomon. Catamo: The Naqca dial is of the conical type, with its vertex elevated (Gibbs §2a) only about 10 mm above the top surface, so that it closely resembles the rare type (§2c) in which this elevation would be zero. But this resemblance refers to the abstract geometrical properties only, not to the general aspect, which is quite different from the single case described by Gibbs, due to the considerable difference in latitude. Since in the case of Gibbs's §2c the hour lines are exact straight lines of equal length, they here deviate only slightly from such a geometrical layout: all eleven are 275±6 mm long and deviate no more than 9 mm from their full length chords in any place except one, namely that of the first morning hour. Day lines are lacking. The southern front plane is inclined by 18±2° to the vertical, with the uncertainty being due to some unevenness but still allowing agreement with the 16° of the local latitude. A unique feature occurs in that the northern front plane of the whole block is parallel to it and therefore parallel to the equatorial plane as well, so that it receives sunlight at any hour during exactly the entire summer half-year, a fact which allows it to be equipped with a second gnomon that projects its shadow onto it during the six summer months. Eleven radial hour lines are present accordingly. The two described inclined planes give the red sandstone block (apart from its base, which protrudes southward) the shape of a rhombohedron with all its twelve edges of roughly 450 mm in length.",
