ObjID268-1
A very fine example of a roofed spherical dial has been found on the island of Tenos (7OO1G) with an inscription identifying it as the work of Andronicus Cyrrestes, the architect who designed the Tower of Winds in Athens in the first century B.C. No other examples of this type of dial are known in Greece or Asia Minor. The dial includes both spherical and planar faces./ Four separate shadow-receiving surfaces face the cardinal points of the compass on this dial. The base below the south-facing surface is flanked by two dolphins. The area below the north-facing surface is inscribed with a lengthy Greek dedication. Three fragments have been restored (probably incorrectly) to the top of the sphere.
