Abstract

A blood red color marks the eleven preserved hour lines and three day curves of this dial. There is no red color along the edges near the missing meridian line, and in fragment 7297 the left or meridian edge is finished smooth. The smooth lower edges of fragment 7297 also give some indication of the original shape of the dial. All preserved hour lines continue in red to the top center of the dial where a groove remains in fragment 7296. The two engraved hour lines in fragment 7297 continue beyond the lower day curve without red color. Note that while the hour lines are straight lines, the day curves are broken lines, the top curve most closely resembling a semicircle. The hour lines form the following angles between the left horizon and the eleventh hour: 19, 18, 15.5, 17.2, 14.1, 11, 10, 11, 14.7, 12.8, 17.5. The winter solstice curve consists of the following arcs: 9, 11, 9, 10, 8,,, 8, 11, 8, 10, mm. The equinox curve between the horizon and the third hour line consists of the following arcs: 25, 26, 20 mm. The summer solstice curve between the sixth and eighth hour lines measures: 37, 31 mm. Die Sonnenuhr stammt aus einer Privatsammlung des späten 19. Jh. und gelangte 1910, mit der (u. E. wahrscheinlichen) Provenienz "Vindonissa" in die Sammlung der Gesellschaft Pro Vindonissa.
