This paper presents the concept of epistemic systems — a novel theoretical framework for modelling scientific discovery — and demonstrates its application to email correspondence analysis. An epistemic system models goal-directed cognitive activity through a modification of Churchland's practical syllogism. The computational system Mail Kanzlei operationalises Actor, Agenda, and Communicative Act to model how scholarly agendas evolve through correspondence, using LLMs with DTD-controlled structured output.
